Removing makeup is just as important as putting it on, however, it’s incredibly surprising that many woman seem to overlook this process, especially after a long day. Many ladies use waterproof makeup products and it is essential to use good, gentle removers to protect delicate areas and prevent infections.
Eyes
The area around the eyes is the most delicate area on the face. The eyes are often the focus of a makeup look. When dealing with layers of eye shadow, eyeliner, waterproof mascara, and false eyelashes, it's important to take all this off carefully, making a gentle and effective eye-makeup remover vital. Look for oil-free removers that say specifically they are made to remove waterproof makeup. Apply remover to a cotton pad and remove eye makeup using a gentle touch. I use cotton swabs for the hard to reach areas like under the eyes. You can also use pads that are pre-soaked in remover and remove excess oil with cotton pads. I find tissues a little too rough for that area. Remove all eye makeup first, and then continue with the routine.
Lips
Remove lipstick and lip gloss using a clean tissue. If there is still any leftover stain, apply petroleum based lip balm and let it sit for a few moments, then wipe it off with a tissue. There are also specific lipstick-remover lotions that you can use. For really tough dark-hued lipstick stains, try using a little eye-makeup remover.
Makeup Wipes
Use makeup wipes, not baby wipes, for a temporary solution. They're great as a last resort to remove excess dirt if you are not near water or only want to remove a specific portion of your makeup. For example, you're at the office and need to remove caked foundation and redo it without ruining your eye makeup. However, opt for cleanser and water whenever possible.
Exfoliants and Astringents
Use exfoliants to remove all excess dirt that your cleanser may not have picked up. Avoid the eye area. After cleansing your face, use a cotton pad to apply astringents to your face and neck. You'll notice it helps to tighten pores by removing dirt and oil. It is recommended to use astringents that contain a little witch hazel or alphahydroxy or salicylic acids.
