Do you know the considerations in common chin and cheek implants? As with every other kind of cosmetic surgery procedures, there is a limit to what can be acheived. Read on to find out about more.

Adjusting to Your Implants

Placement of facial implants, like most cosmetic surgery procedures, has a positive impact on self-image of the recipient. However, with facial implants, there is a limit. The older the recipient is at the time of surgery, the less likely she will be pleased with her new facial structure. Over the years, we become accustomed to our basic facial features. Eventually, any change, no matter how attractive, may be unacceptable because it appears different. This difficulty in accepting a new appearance following a structural change is a greater issue following rhinoplasty than chin or cheek augmentation. Following rejuvenating surgeries such as a facelift or blepharoplasty, it is not usually a problem.

Preexisting Asymmetry

Most people have asymmetric facial bones. Minor unevenness is common and usually goes unnoticed. Moderate or severe asymmetry, however, can be troublesome. In these cases, chin and cheek implants can sometimes draw greater attention to preexisting asymmetries. Attempting to correct asymmetries through implant modification can be beneficial, but can also introduce new problems.

Timing for Surgery

Chin and cheek augmentation may be performed once the facial bones are fully developed, which is after the age of fifteen for women.
